God, Not People, Is Your Source: Why Trusting the Right Provider Changes Everything.

In My Time of Meditation…

In my time of meditation today, I was reminded of a foundational truth that brings peace and clarity in every season of life—God is my source. No matter what happens, no matter who comes and goes, no matter what doors open or close, God alone is the one who provides, sustains, and rewards.

I want to declare it again: God is my source.

My Personal Testimony: Learning to Release Expectations

For so long, I struggled with expectations, expectations of people, opportunities, and what I thought life was supposed to look like. I would look around and think, I know people who have the resources I need, the training I need, the connections that could help push me to the next level.

In my mind, I had a lineup of people who I just knew were going to help me. I thought, If they see my heart, if they believe in the vision, surely they will step in and support me.

But time and time again, I was left disappointed. People who I thought would help never did. Some ignored what God had placed on their hearts. Others pulled away after being there for a season. And it left me wondering—why?

I had to learn the hard way that God is the One who appoints and directs, not me. Just because I see someone as the ideal candidate to help me doesn’t mean that’s who God has assigned. And just because someone doesn’t step up doesn’t mean I’m lacking or forgotten.

There were moments when I felt hurt and frustrated, thinking, Lord, I know You placed it on their heart to help me—why didn’t they follow through? But God showed me something powerful: If He calls someone to help and they don’t obey, that’s not my burden to carry. It’s between them and God. And if they don’t step up, God will send someone else.

The Power of Trusting God as the Source

One of the most powerful scriptures that affirms this truth is:

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (ESV)

This verse reminds us that it is not people, jobs, or circumstances that sustain us—it is God. He is the ultimate source of everything we need. People, jobs, and opportunities are simply the channels He uses, but they are not the source.

People Are Just Instruments—God Is the Rewarder

God may appoint and direct people to help me, but I am not the one responsible for rewarding them—God is.

So often, we feel pressure when people support us or invest in us, thinking that we owe them something in return. But the truth is, when God places someone in our life to bless or assist us, they are simply following His direction. Their obedience is between them and God. If they choose not to follow through, that is not my burden to carry, because I am not their source either—God is.

This applies in the reverse as well. If God calls me to bless, support, or give to someone, my job is to be obedient—not to look for a reward, repayment, or recognition. My only responsibility is to do what God has asked of me, trusting that He sees and rewards all things in His perfect way and timing.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”  Colossians 3:23-24 (ESV)

The Solution: Releasing the Burden of Approval and Expectations

Sometimes, people will shift their support, withdraw their help, or even make you feel like you owe them something. They might say:

“I’m not going to support you anymore.”

“I’m not going to bless you because of this or that.”

“I was helping you, but now I’ve changed my mind.”

When this happens, the enemy tries to plant doubt, fear, and feelings of unworthiness in our hearts. But today, I am standing on this truth: it is not on me.

I am not the one rewarding them.

I am not the one calling them.

I am not the one blessing them.

That is God’s job.

Likewise, if I have been assigned to help someone, I should do it without expecting anything in return. My obedience is an act of worship unto God.

“Do not be weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

Letting Go and Trusting God

The more I released my expectations of people and focused on trusting God as my provider, the more I saw Him move in unexpected ways. Help came from places I never anticipated. Opportunities showed up out of nowhere. And sometimes, what I thought I needed from people, God provided through different channels.

I realized that I was never the one repaying people anyway, that’s God’s job. My role is simply to be obedient, to move when He says move, and to trust that He will align everything in His perfect timing.

Maybe you’ve felt the same way waiting on people, expecting support from places that never delivered, feeling disappointed when things didn’t go the way you thought they would. But I want to encourage you today: release it. Let go of expectations that are weighing you down. The people God has truly called to help you will show up. And if they don’t? Trust that God already has a better plan in place.

No more worrying. No more chasing. No more wondering why certain people didn’t show up. God is your source, and He will never fail you.

“The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.” Proverbs 10:22 (ESV)

Final Reflection: Keep Your Eyes on the Source

As I walk forward in faith, I will keep my focus on the One who holds my future, not on people who may come and go. I will bless when God tells me to bless. I will give when He tells me to give. And I will trust that my provision, my increase, my help, and my future are all in His hands.

So today, I encourage you: release the pressure, let go of expectations, and trust that God is your source. He will never fail you.

Be at peace. God’s got this.
